The 1st Dukedom of France (Uzès est qualifiée de premier duché de
France) The village history dates back to Roman times and beyond…
The town itself has a castle and some lovely bars & retaurants. It is famous for the markets that take place on a Saturday and Wednesday, filling the whole town with colour and spectacle. The town has many festivals, with the main one taking place on the first weekend in August.Centre of attention is the Place Aux Herbs with it’s fountain and vaulted outer walkways.
Market day is a must, on a Saturday the market fills every bit of the town, don't try to drive in !On Wednesday there is a smaller market, mostly food, flowers & herbs.
The main annual Fete is the first week in August when the village is just one big long party and paella cook up for 4 days, the horsemen & horsewomen of the Camargue come to town with their horses and bulls to compete for the prize from the Mayor ....... don't expect the town to sleep that weekend (at all !!)

All year, there are many festivals, concerts, antiques markets, traditional provencal food and handycraft markets... Three not to miss are .. *Truffle day at Uzès in January* Marche Du Paques (Easter weekend)* Fete du Vin (Wine festival 2nd week of August)
